When Georg Orwell published his novel “1984” in the year 1949, nobody could have imagined what significance the term “security” would eventually have one day.
And security will once again be a central topic at this year’s Munich Security Conference, which is taking place in Munich on 31st January for the 50th time.
Under the title “50 YEARS OF HELL”, to mark this anniversary the association Positive-Propaganda is curating a group exhibition by the renowned socio-critical artists:
The organisers of the exhibition see the Security Conference as an event financed with taxpayers' money for private armaments lobbyists.
The criticism is aimed at the negotiations of the international powerful elite from the worlds of business, politics and the military regarding strategies to secure the vested interests of global neoliberal power. Human right violations are simply regarded as collateral damage. The increase in drone warfare, the legitimisation of military deployments abroad, the abolition of the presumption of innocence and the recent revelations of indiscriminate personal data retention are just a few ramifications of this development.
Against this backdrop, the exhibition “50 YEARS OF HELL” takes a stance with impressive works by the artists and presents pieces that spectacularly grapple with current political topics and the correlations between warfare and Capitalism, police violence and torture. An artistic intervention by the street-art artist Mark Jenkins is planned for the protest march on 1st February.
