Established by the Munich illustrator and graffiti writer Flying Förtress, who has been living and working in Hamburg since 2007 and has gained world renown for work including his “Teddy Troopers”, the Jukebox Cowboys (JBCB) combine classic graffiti on freight and passenger transportation with elaborate avant-gardist concept walls, as well as extravagant street bombings and tags
The graffiti collective, which was established in 2010 in Hamburg, is made up of some of the most innovative players of the German and European graffiti movement. Their focus is on both the graphic and colour development of lettering, including in combination with characters and comic elements. Unlike in socio-political street art, the individuals of the group consider themselves and their actions as non-political. For them it is much more about the cause.
In the short time they have been working together, they have succeeded in developing their own visual imagery, in which the focus is not on the creative impact of an individual concept, but rather a representative overall one, as well as the constant further development and innovation of their own approach.
In this sense, it is important to our art association that with this project, in addition to representative street art projects and socio-political indoor exhibitions, we can demonstrate what constitutes good graffiti in the 21st century.
So we are very happy to be able to welcome Flying Förtress, who meanwhile lives in St. Pauli, and his clique on board for their first joint project in Munich.
