In 2012, when we decided to carry out our first Positive-Propaganda project in cooperation with Amnesty International Munich on the subject of „Hände hoch für Waffenkontrollel!” ("Hands Up For Gun Control") we had our sights set on one artist in particular: KRIPOE from CBS in Berlin.
Anyone who is familiar with his work, and above all, its significance on the still relatively young German street-art-scene will know what a challenge it was for us to even come into contact with this phantom, let alone get him on board for an official street-art project.
In August 2003 during the exhibition project “Backjumps Live Issue”, when the street-art greats – BANKSY, FAILE and Shepard Fairey – who were still unknown at the time, were making their first marks on the streets of Berlin in the direct vicinity of his vibrant yellow fists, Kripoe had already laid claim to the most spectacular spots in the city.
Since then, countless noteworthy collectors and galleries have been trying to get their hands on a piece of his “subversive artistic energy” for their collections, which the artist has emphatically rejected, however, due to his “artistic” conviction.
After numerous trips from Berlin to London and Istanbul, we then finally managed to enlist the most renowned and, above all, most authentic German street-art artist for our cooperation with Amnesty International, which is Kripoe’s first official large-format wall design worldwide. His statement to „Hände hoch für Waffenkontrollel!” ("Hands Up For Gun Control") can now be observed by tens of thousands of passers-by daily, as a call for a fairer world without German armaments.
